Posted on January 25, 2010

INTEX have started the year by the delivery of mobile element on –wheels or “MEOW” to Smart Communications Inc.” Credit is given to our SMART Account Management Team headed by VP Emil Santos and Account Manager Mari Lolarga.

This project will address Smart’s requirement for a better network capacity and coverage thus, provide a reliable cell site especially during disaster operations. Another first for Intex!!

The 4 units six wheeler truck units delivered this month will be the frontline model units of Smart which will soon be mobilized and seen in different parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

SMART Mobile Element on Wheels (MEOW) Project

The SMART Mobile Element on Wheel (MEOW) is a truck-mounted cell site. The system is a combination of an insulated, weather proof cabin mounted on a truck chassis with a removable antenna mast mounted on the roof.

The cabin will house various base station equipment such as 2G, 3G, HSPA, rectifier equipment and workstations. An electrical system is provided and can be hooked-up to a mains supply or generator, whichever will be available. Cooling is provided by a 1.5hp window type air-conditioner. A 9-meter antenna mast is provided to mount all antennas (microwave and sector) and is designed to allow a technician to climb to the top to install and orient these antennas.

The MEOW will be utilized in any of the following situations:

Supplementary Unit
Coverage for events and/or festivals where
traffic volume (calls, SMS, 3G, other special
services) may increase substantially.

Survey Unit
In areas where a permanent site feasibility
survey is required

Temporary Unit
In emergency situations, such as natural
disasters, civil unrest, permanent site
under disasters, civil unrest, permanent
site under repair, or is being upgraded
(slave unit) or cutover support.

The Smart MEOW project uses a 6-wheeler Mitsubishi Canter truck while the cabin was fabricated Almazora Motors Inc., the leading truck body builder in the country at their facility at PTC-SEZ, Carmona, Cavite.

The four (4) units initially ordered are going to be distributed to the following regions:

1. Metro Manila
2. Luzon
3. Visayas
4. Mindanao
